Weeee!! Fun weekend with friends!!

First, we had our long awaited Five Star Stories photoshoot with [info]kuronosho

More photos can be found over at HCC Cosplay over here!!! Unfortunately, the loverly [info]tristencitrine and the fab-ul-lous [info]positivespace couldn't make it, but hopefully we can get more photos with them soon. Didn't they turn out great, though? Doesn't Sho do an amazing job?!?!? Unfortunately it was really windy, which explains my "oh my god the wind is catching my ribbons and pulling the wig into new positions of PAIN into my skull" expression in most of hte pictures. Ugh.

The rest of the weekend was spent either putting up or taking down the display costumes at Silicon, or (almost) giving a panel. Or getting dressed to give a panel. Oh, and we had tea as well! *pats full tummeh* Oh, photo from silicon halfway in costume :) All my secrets revealed!

Haha, that's a cute photo of you, halfway in costume!

And how appropriate that I've just started rereading Five Star Stories. :D

Really? I totally couldn't tell you were in pain! I sat there staring at the pictures going, "Judy looks so regal and serene! *_*"

One of these days I'll have to pick your brain for how you make these amazing costumes. The scroll work on the back of that obi, simply amazing.

Actually, it was very easy (just verrrrryyy tedious). The obi is vinyl, btw.

I sketched out the pattern on a sheet of wax paper, and laid it over the vinyl and a layer of low loft batting. Then just followed the scrollwork pattern with my sewing machine. I did use upholstry thread so the pattern would pop a little more, but mostly it was just handcranking my machine around entirely too tight curves.

here is a mid progress photo where you can see the method a little better

When done, I'd just wrip the wax paper off, and then sew the backside on along with some foam interfacing.

Oh wow the time that must have taken. I've done that before on smaller things but I guess the vinyl is what makes it pop so well.

For once, I'm so glad I'm not seeing these costumes in person right now. The detail is drool-inspiring.

I. Er. Good lord I think my brain has popped from those pictures. I agree with the person so said: 'mind-blowingly awesome.'

Do you take small commissions at all? I'm trying to find a patch for my little guy's costume and I'm about ready to pull my hair out at the roots. I pay in PayPal, chocolate, or similar.

also you look fabulously slim in that second pic. WHAT A WASTE THAT YOU CAN'T SEE THAT ONCE THE MAROON THING IS ON, it's pretty enough to be a costume on it's own, wtf.

Judy, I am the biggest dumbass in the world! I thought I had you friended years ago so I could stalk--I mean, stare at your art and majesty. But I went to check just now, and I did not have your name! My heart aches! Might I add you now so I might stalk--I mean, stare at you in adoration?

That is beautiful work. I have heard through the grapevine you did cosplay costuming and I was wondering how much you usually charge per costume, as I am wanting a costume for Abarai Renji from the anime Bleach.

Well, I do make anime costumes, but unfortunately, I don't take commisions. I just don't have the time! Sorry!
