As per request, PICSPAM! (of chevalier d'eon underwear, natch!)

So, i cut the pieces out for these about six months ago and finally got around to putting it together. Only took a couple of days, but GOD, do I hate flossing (name for decorative boning channel top-stitching)

Pic of corset plus pocket hoops (minus waistband). I agree with the reviews, the pattern as is comes out too angular. I'm going to create a gusset to lower the top edge so it's a bit more sloping. I just haven't done it yet.

You know at cons you never have a place to keep your room key? I've got that problem NAILED. Where's my lunch? oh yeah, right here!

Did I mention I'm sick of flossing?

Oft muttered phrase while making this: "If I was AJ, I'd be done by now!!" The pattern called for 30 YARDS of boning. Not a typo.

What else have I been doing? I also made these: (psst: don't they go well with our yellow dining room? uck) and I'll be making a few more. My sewing can get pretty sloppy when I'm sewing for myself, but I had to be meticulous with these since they were for other people. God, it took FOREVER that way. But they were happy :)

That corset looks AMAZING! And that's only your underwear! Sweet.

Doot, I just revisited the art for Lorenza and she has her corset outside her skirt. >< But she doesn't have the fancy scallop things. Guess that means there's a thing over it? Or... I dunno... thoughts?

Peplum btw

I'd just attach the peplum to the corset over the scallops. Even though the bias tape was a pain in the ass around those scallops, they are necessary to prevent the bones from digging into your hips.

Oh, forgot to ask! What kind of boning did you go with? And what kind of fabric did you decide to use?

Berry silk tafetta with this lovely rose subtle stripe running through it.

Also, one layer of coutil, one of heavy weight broadcloth, one of quilters cotton (This awesome siloutte cinderella fabric i bought in japan, woot)

As far as boning, I used (as per pattern recommendations) spring steel bones next to all the seams and the grommets, 1/4 plastic boning for the rest (not rigidlene, but the nice stuff from farthingalesla.com)

PS I totally approve of the skirt-pocket! I'll be dropping all of my con crap off with you to hold.

*__* Wow, that looks like a lot of tedious work, but it's beautiful.

And OMG, that rose fabric looks kinda like my sister's comforter.

...gah. I LOVE that corset. (flossing IS a pain in the ass, but it comes out looking SO beautiful) What pattern did you use?

And yeah, it totally needs a gusset to kill the angular-ness (I make up words. Yay)

JP Ryan's 18thC stays. It got the best review on the gbaccg.org pattern review website for the time period. The pattern went together fine, but it's written in extreme pattern-ese. Bleah.

Ahh thank you~! I'll have to look it up. (I really should look look at the GBACCG site more often ...especially since I have a membership.)

And I prefer pattern-ese to the made-up jargon I've seen on a few of the handmade patterns.

But the corset came out really gorgeous~! I can't wait to see the rest of the outfit.

The corset and pocket hoops look lovely! Thank you for posting pictures... they've inspired me to get off my duff and finish the corset I've been conspicuously not working on for a few weeks now.
